Kategori Multimedia
Pada prinsipnya multimedia terbagi atas 3 kategori yaitu Linear, Interaktif dan Hypermedia. Meski sama-sama multimedia namun disiplin ilmu yang menaunginya sangat berbeda. Untuk Linear Multimedia lebih banyak unsur kreatif, seni, komunikasi visual dan sedikit pemrograman sehingga biasa dipelajari di jurusan DKV (Desain Komunikasi Visual). Hyper Media hampir seluruhnya menggunakan teknologi dan logika dan dipelajari di jurusan Teknik Informatika, Rekayasa Perangkat Lunak dan Jaringan Komputer. Keduanya (Linear & Hypermedia) bergabung dalam Interactive Multimedia yang porsi seni dan teknologi hampir berimbang.

  

Komponen Multimedia
Pembuatan multimedia melibatkan beberapa unsur / komponen seperti berikut. Jika ditambah komponen bahasa pemrograman / coding maka karya multimedia tersebut dinamakan Interactive Multimeda / Multimedia Interaktif

Multimedia Linear
adalah karya visual bergerak yang berjalan secara berurutan (in sequence) seperti acara TV, film, animasi dan slide show. Disini pengguna hanya bisa menyaksikan adegan mulai awal / start sampai akhir / finish karya visual. Kontrol yang dimungkinkan hanyalah Play,Stop,Pause,Next & Previous Frame/scene saja.

Proses Pembuatan Film / Movie
Multimedia Linear ini merupakan salah satu bagian dari Proses yang lebih luas dari pembuatan sebuah Film / Iklan.
